Baaji's, home to delicious chocolates and pastries

Being a sweet tooth, I recently discovered a new chocolate boutique - Baaji's. And the sweeter thing is, the boss of this retail chain is my friend. Hehehe.

One day last year, I was on my way to an appointment at Bangsar Shopping Complex. While walking from Jason's Food Hall towards Dome, I saw a familiar face. I wasn't sure at first but then she turned to me and smiled too. That's when I knew she was a hometown friend. So I stopped by at Baaji's kiosk after my appointment and she introduced her Almond Dragees to me. I instantly fell in love with these dragees!

Then, last month, I visited Baaji's at their 1 Mont Kiara outlet.

Sylvie was so generous to let me sample these delicious pastries.
The ingredients are specially imported from Middle East, Swiss, Belgium, and the pastries are designed by their own chef. You won't find pastries like theirs anywhere else!
My favourites were Bird Nest Delight and Dark Chocolate Truffle.

IMG_5740
Just in case you're thinking to buy these chocolates as gifts, yes they do have pre-packaged gift sets.
Or you may also customize the packaging yourself.

IMG_5733
These almond dragees come in cute glass containers and cute colours too!

So I got some and brought them to our bachelorrete party in Boracay as our snack. Hehe.
Since Xqi's wedding theme colours are fuschia and tangerine, I chose pink and orange Almond dragees to match the occasion!

Now, my friends will enjoy discount when purchasing from Baaji's, so are you my friend now? haha.

Damansara Village @ Ipoh

Hey y'all! I know, technically speaking, I am supposed to blog about the Nuffnang 6th birthday bash first.. Haha. But I'm still waiting for some pics taken by Desrrey and Sean on their camera (some of my iPhone pics suck) so I'll skip that and blog about that later.

Mr Choe and I got invited to Damansara Village for a - erm how shall I call it? - media engagement party? makan makan with Ah Beng and Patrick? - function. I initially didn't know what event it was except that we were invited by Henry and TV personality "Ah Beng" and famous radio personality Patrick Teoh will be there. And I initially thought the event was going to be in Damansara (as the restaurant name suggests) and didn't know about Damansara Village @ Ipoh till I googled it. Then I came across this post on Damansara Village blogspot, where bloggers were being invited to a dinner at Damansara Village @ Ipoh on the same night. Now, we're not invited as a blogger but as personal friends but that shouldn't stop me from blogging about it. ;)

IMG_5446
See, they are in Imbi, Petaling Jaya and Ipoh.
Oh, for those who are still new to this branch in Ipoh, they are located just beside the Lost World Theme Park at Tambun. :)

IMG_5447
IMG_5448
When I got there, I quickly took a few shots of the place and its surroundings before it's too dark.
There was still a lil' amount of sunlight when we arrived at 7.30pm.
And what they said in their blog is true - if you dine here, you'll be dining amidst 200-million-year forests.

Then, dinner is served.

IMG_5449
The best thing about of Damansara Village is in its soup.
We could really feel the herbs in the soup and we could feel the nutrients going into our body, rejuvenating our cells. hahahaha. (so "kua cheong")
But seriously I think the soup's really good. It's not just the normal clear soup you get from a lot of steamboat places.

IMG_5453
The service was also good. See, not only did they help us place raw food into the pot to cook, the waiters even made it a point to get the cooked fish out of the pot and place them onto individual plates for each of us, served complete with soy sauce and seasonings. *thumbs up for the good service*

Another thing that I really liked are the prawns but I ate them too soon that they didn't make it into my pics. haha. Therefore, for that, you'll have to make your way to Damansara Village. Haha.

IMG_5475
We need to thank Henry (bottom right) for inviting us and introducing us to good steamboat!
"Ah Beng" Lum Tak Weng (I don't really know how to spell his Chinese name) was also there to welcome all the patrons that night.

IMG_5474
IMG_5469
Then we had a really good chat with Yen, Jason and Patrick.
They are all real friendly people and we found out that Patrick is living in a place I am currently surveying! ahah. Gotta pay him a visit soon!

The fresh, sweet, juicy prawns are waiting for you at Damansara Village! :D

On antibiotics

I am down with lymph node infection and fever. Went to Sunway Medical Center to check what's wrong with me, because this lump under my chin has been with me for about a week. Did an ultrasound scan and confirmed that it's a lymph node infection and nothing dangerous. *phew*

My fever is on and off, therefore, I have to stay indoors these few days and avoid all things spicy and fried. At times like this, I always wish I could be out in the sun.

Like this.

DSC_0380_3
Hahhahahahaahahahahaha.
I know, this is damn funny.
The sun was super gorgeous but I just had to spoil the picture with my second favourite pastime - eating. -.-

DSC_0619_3
Okok, erase the image above from your mind and replace with this!
White sweater and navy blue flowy outerwear from Forever 21, scarf from Cambodia, orange leggings from The Spring, Kuching, red Longchamp, red boots from Taiwan.

I got my red boots for only RM19 in one of the night markets in Taiwan! First saw it in Ximending, Taipei for RM39, but the inner cheapskate in me told me that there may be something similar for a cheaper price. So I waited. And my inner cheapskate was right when I found it later in Yilan for RM19! Kareen said, "Trust in power of waiting". Lesson well-learned. ahhahahaa. And after traveling in Taiwan for 16 days, yes RM19 is still the lowest you can find, for these kind of boots. :D

And, at times like this, Vishnu just had to send me a picture of Thai tomyam from Khunthai restaurant.

Thanks. :P

The best caramel custard ... so far

Behold, this is a mouth watering post! If you love caramel custards like me, that is.
But I have never come across a person who outrightly says caramel custard sucks, yet. So I guess this post is for everyone then. Haha.

You are about to discover, the smoothest, softest and most delicious caramel custard in Ipoh!

"Ok I can't wait to hear about it. Where is this place?"

IMG_4454
IMG_4449
Tadaahh! It's a new food place that I tried - Lim Kopi.
Along Jalan Sultan Iskandar, Ipoh.

IMG_4462
IMG_4460
Walking in, you immediately feel like this place is classic.
What with all the hand-painted tiles, wooden interiors and huge mirrors.

More on the interior later, back to the best caramel custard.
I know you're waiting. haha.

IMG_4456
First, it came like this.
This looks very unassuming and I was thinking for a second, "where is the caramel?"

IMG_4457
And then when I dipped my spoon in, the caramel came oozing out! Clever!
This made me feel, "hmm this must be special."
And yes it was! It was heaven in my mouth, my very first bite on.
It was so smooth, so soft and just melts in your mouth. Like, ahhhh~~

IMG_4459
There you have it! The best caramel custard, revealed.
Highly recommended, please go try it. hahaha.

IMG_4447
Actually I ate this before the caramel custard but then the caramel custard was super nice so this was overshadowed. But this was nice as well. For main meal, go for this dry curry noodle, for dessert definitely caramel custard!
It's fun how they gave two pieces of biscuits accompanying our Milo and coffee - so old school.

Speaking of old school, here is where I need to show you their old school and classic interiors.

IMG_4443
They have two similar courtyards like this.
Best enjoyed on a lazy Sunday morning. Hehe.

IMG_4463
I couldn't contain my excitement when I saw this vintage fan, so much that I almost knocked into someone who appeared to be enjoying his morning coffee before he was interrupted. Haha.
Sighh, I took so much trouble to take a picture of a fan. LOL.

IMG_4445
And this windows are awesome - need I say more?

Awesome interiors, relaxing ambience, great food - what more can I ask for a simple breakfast trip? :D

HuHot Mongolian Grill

Yo! Today is a holiday! But I am sick... To make up for the fun that I should have basking in the sun, I am blogging, yeah! Hahaha. Oh before that, Happy Deepavali to all my dear friends! I really miss the joyous mood and the food, back in hometown and back when we were in school when everyone could just gather without much considerations. Hahaha.

I was doing some iPhoto housekeeping recently (took me days) and guess what I found, pictures of one of my favourite restaurants when I was in the US, HuHot Mongolian Grill. :D

How brave a Mongolian warrior are you? Let's find out!

IMG_3340
First, take all the noodles and meat you can eat.

IMG_3339
Then, all the vegetables you can take.

IMG_3337
Ultimate test here, how spicy can you go?

I just love mixing and matching the different sauces every time I visit. It's like, you don't have to be a chef to be able to create your own taste. They make it that simple! I always have one part of Peanut sauce as base, and I always top it of with one part Garlic Chilli sauce. That's my personal preference. :)

Then comes the most entertaining part....

IMG_3336
IMG_3338
Line your bowls and watch them do their acrobatic cooking, like a true Mongolian warrior!
Don't be surprised to see flames and balancing acts! Yeah!!

IMG_3341
Lastly, of course, is to tip the brave warriors for cooking your noodles to perfection and for not confusing your carefully-thought-out-bowl-of-noodles with another person's bowl. ahhaha.

Waiting for HuHot to come to Malaysia.! Please, HuHot, can I be the first to know? Hhehehe.

The Vanilla Place, Empire Subang

Hey peeps! Sorry for the longggg break.. Truth is, I was a little down recently and I didn't want to fill my blog with emo/sad posts. Hehe. Mr Choe's back ache is recovering now (he had slipped disc) so I hope this is the beginning of the ending of the down time. Hhahha.

This girl's outing that I decide to post is one that happened weeks ago! Ee Vonn, Kareen and I went to The Vanilla Place at Empire Subang for a lunch date. I haven't dated them since and I miss them both!! I am not much of a food blogger like Kareen but I'll just post pictures of the food and comment a little. Hehe.

The Vanilla Place

Kareen + Pesto Pasta.
Her pesto pasta was good it seemed. :)

Me + Aglio Olio.
My aglio olio was so-so only.

Ee Vonn + Nachos with Beef.
Nachos was nachos. Hahhaah.
(Now you know why I am so not food-blogger-material)

Next, food pictures!

Pesto Pasta.

Aglio Olio.

Nachos.

And brownies for dessert! Warm brownie served with ice-cream, one of the simplest luxury in life.
I am a sweet tooth so this was what I enjoyed the most. Hahha.

I like this picture of me, but my hair got in the way of Kareen's hair.

So this is a better picture. Hahah.

First in the group - Mrs Lee

Finally, the first one to get married in the gang is Miss Neow Ti Hooi!

Last weekend we all made a special trip to Melaka for Ti Hooi's wedding. And it seems that age is catching up... After the weekend of driving to and fro Melaka, and hosting friends for 4 days, I was so so so exhausted... Stop! That's depressing! Let's talk about the fun stuffs shall we? Hehhehe.

The Wedding

We crashed the morning "pick-the-bride" session! To our disappointment, Mrs Lee did not expect us to be at her wedding during the morning where she was supposed to be wedded off to Mr Lee. To her surprise, we told her we were going to be there, the night before. Hahahha. At least we gave her a pretty late warning, if not, she will be shocked, not surprised. hahaha.

I'm sorry I don't have most of the group photos...

Let you in a secret, we are actually second cousins. Hehhe.

Details of my dress, up close.

Getting ready for night reception. :))
OOTD:
Pink dress - Chic-in-Pink (find them on Facebook!)
Black ribbon - to give a waist line to my dress
Nude pumps - Aldo

Wah the dramatic light effect..

Again, group pics are not with me and Doris's phone crashed so we can't get the group pics yet...
Random selca shots. The term selca I learned from Chuckei's blog. ahha.
Eh, can you see my curls?? :P

When I get my hands on the group pics, will upload!! I also wanna remember how we all looked like at this wedding haha.

The Food

Gosh we ate so much I could not believe! Non-stop eating! Luckily we could burn some fat by walking and shopping on Jonker Street. I forgot to take pics of famous Nadeje mille crepe cakes!! Had them 3 years back and missed them ever since so this is my chance!! Hahaha. But sorry, no photos. :((

Jonker88 cendol.
Can you count the number of hands attacking the poor cendols??
We ordered ordinary/default cendol, mango cendol, sago cendol and sago gula melaka.
I liked sago cendol the most!

Then, off to the shop beside Jonker88 for some Nyonya Asam Laksa, different from Penang Asam Laksa but quite nice.
A bit spicy though, so we ended up with few glasses of iced lemon tea. haha.

Next day, the eating spree continues!!

Amoy Nyonya pancakes, just outside famous confectionery store, San Shu Gong. (pic below)
Great for breakfast hehehe.

This is where I bought their famous pineapple tarts home.
Mum loves pineapple tarts and she commented San Shu Gong pineapple tarts are very nice!

Then, as brunch (wth), we had Muar Chee.

Chicken rice balls for lunch!
Note that breakfast, brunch and lunch all happened in the same hour!! Hahahha.
Don't know the name of this shop but it's opposite San Shu Gong.

Coconut jelly as dessert.

And this Ting Ting candy as fun treat. Hehhe.
The name Ting Ting is apparently derived from the sound of the hammer (I don't know what I should call the tool, haha) knocking the candy.
So much effort goes into making this small pack of candy.

There are so much to eat on just one street!

The Crafts

I just wanna highlight some cute crafts I saw along the street.

Pop-up cards.

Mini wire sculptures.

Classic hand-painted porcelain.
This is so classic we don't even use them anymore!
But maybe, time to bring back the classics!

Decorative bulbs.. Maybe one day. :D

The After-Party

When we came back to KL, Ti Hooi (now Mrs Lee) invited us for a lunch get-together because she misses us too much! ahahhaa. And we went to Pavillion.

And we wanted to verify that mille crepe cakes in Melaka are still the best.
Verdict: Hokkaido Mille Crepe Cake 0 - 1 Nadeje Mille Crepe Cake

Ginza Cafe for lunch.
Don't ask me why September set lunch menu can still be used in the month of October. Lol.
Tried the curry udon for myself! :)

And when I came home that weekend, I got a surprise gift waiting for me!!
Aldo clutch from Bangkok.
Years ago, Mr Choe got me a Coach wristlet, also in the same type of champagne gold.
He felt that it's probably too small for me now, what with the invention of huge smartphones. haha.
So this is the substitute for that, in case I need a bigger champagne gold clutch. Hihi.

Phew!! Long post! That's because I had a longggg weekend! ;))
